The Activities of the Jews 237 Cequia Vella — 3.5 hanegadas ( 1433) Collet, el - 9 hanegadas ( 1473), 1 piece ( 1485) Coscollosa 18 ־ hanegadas ( 1473), 4.5 ( 1485) Pins, els - 1 vine ( 1479) Pont de Bona - 2 hanegadas ( 1479) Molino dEn Cerda - 1 vine ( 1485) Pont de Coscollosa - 9 hanegadas ( 1433) Sas, near the old castle - 1 cuartón ( 1468) Seca, - 13.5 hanegadas ( 1473), 9 ( 1473), 1 vine ( 1485), 9 hanegadas ( 1485). Villarreal road - 6 hanegadas ( 1433) Vinamargo - 4 hanegadas ( 1473), 4 hanegadas ( 1485) The second group of Jewish rural properties was terra ( land), situated mainly in irrigable areas. These lands totalled 23, adding up to 98.5 hanegadas and giving an average size of 4.28 hanegadas per plot. The progression of this type of property differs from that of the vineyard. As opposed to the continuously ascending curve of the vineyard, the terra exceeds the vine in hanegadas in 1433 only, rises slightly in 1462, registers a sudden drop in 1468, and recovers from 1473. It collapses, like the vine, in 1485. The topographical distribution was as follows: Camino den Mig — Camino de la Mar — 16 hanegadas ( 1433) Caminaç lo — 4 cuartones ( 1468), 4 hanegadas ( 1473) Coscollosa — 1 hanegada ( 1473), 9 ( 1479) Rafalafena — 5 hanegadas ( 1485) Vinamargo — 4 hanegadas ( 1479) Since many of the place- names are the same as those of the vineyards, we may suppose that many hanegadas of land were situated in the unirrigated zone; in one case arable land is mentioned. The carob- trees totalled 63 hanegadas, and are documented from 1468 with a low figure: 4.5 hanegadas which rapidly increases to 31.5 in 1479, but drops in 1485 to only 4.5 hanegadas. Uncultivated lands ( eriaç) followed the same progress as that of the carob- trees; this may relate perhaps to the need to have adequate space for flock grazing. The carob- tree appears in the parcels of Bordell ( 9 hanegadas), Collet ( 9 hanegadas), Camino de Alcora ( 1 garroferal), el Seca ( 4.5 hanegadas) in 1468. In 1479 in el Sas ( 9 hanegadas), el Collet ( 9 hanegadas), below the river ( 9 hanegadas). Finally we find uncultivated land in the Quadra dEn Bergua ( 4.5 Chapter Home  | TOC 9 | Index 9
