To promote ease of use, we do not list the myriad and legitimate variations in liturgical practices. The congregational rabbi, as the mara deatra ( the local authority on Jewish practice­), has the ultimate responsibility for such decisions in each community. This book contains no instance of the Divine name that requires burial ( גְנּיִזהָ genizah). Everywhere that such a name appears, the first letter is separated from the remainder of the letters so that the name never appears as an intact unit ( e. g., ל ·ֵ .( א
